Carnival time!

The schedule is packed from 10am to 4pm...

But here's what everyone comes for:

The char siu was really yummy. Buffalo Wilbur, who doesn't usually take local food, finished his share.

 Not a bad haul.

 The games booths were very popular.

It's not a proper carnival without the fake Silvermine Cave. Although this year, I detected a distinct lack of enthusiasm. There were fewer plastic bats.

Bouncy castles have changed a lot from my days.

December upcoming events

One thing district councillor Rainbow Wong is good at is organising free village events. I like the simple but fun Silvermine Bay Carnival. I especially look forward to the free (yes, free!) local food. The next one is on December 16. See you there!

And don't forget. The Discovery Bay flea market is on Sunday at the Piazza. Hope the rain holds off.

All swapped out

I am a swap meet convert. Especially as I can get the same shopping high but without having to spend any money.

China Beach Club was heaving today with people attending the Transition South Lantau swap party.

You would have thought that, as the swapping was on a one-for-one basis regardless of cost, all you'd get would be cheap junk. But there were amazingly good stuff there, some brand new with tags.

Fortune favours the shameless

Thank goodness the rain has stopped. To celebrate, Buffalo Wilbur and I went for a quick stroll around Chung Hau village.

Remember how I said there's always something going on in Mui Wo? We hadn't gone very far when Buffalo Wilbur spotted a guy dressed as the God of Fortune walking around the village.

I reasoned that where there's a God of Fortune, there's fortune to be made. So we hung around shamelessly trying to catch his eyes.

We were in luck. He gave us chocolate coins with a face value of 2 euros. Success!
