Those lazy parkers are back

The bicycles are beginning to creep into the No Parking zone again. Their owners seem to think that by parking their wheels behind the kiosk no one can see them but actually they are obstructing people getting off the ferry on the left hand side. Think it's time for another clean sweep.

More pavement parkers

We were sitting outside Bombay Cafe when this Land Rover drove up and parked on the pavement.

Before anyone could say anything, the well-dressed driver got out and nonchalantly made for the ferry pier.

As I've said before, it's not big, it's not clever... and if you can afford a car like this you surely can afford to pay for parking next door.

Every time Buffalo Wilbur laughs at me for not being able to straighten my car when parallel parking, I will show him this.

The red car parking illegally in the lorry lot is getting a ticket. Muahahahaha.... I love it when things like that happen – but only when it's not to me, of course.

Bicycle clear-out

What a lovely sight on a weekday morning - a nice, clean ferry pier that doesn't look like a bicycle graveyard:

But for how long, I wonder?

I still think NWFF should set up a few stalls in that space and either open them for tender or offer them for rent to local craftspeople/ traders.

It will create a buzz for people coming out of the ferry, generate more revenue for the ferry company - and, more importantly, keep those illegal parkers at bay.

No parking... that means you!

It's not as if this guy couldn't find a parking space – he was in Shap Long, for goodness' sake. But he still decided that the Shap Long sitting-out area was the only place for his precious Mercedes.

I know the traffic police can't be everywhere so maybe they should give some responsible residents blank traffic summons slips to place under the windscreens of these drivers. The residents don't even have to go to court if the fine is contested – in these days of digital photography, all it takes is one picture to paint a thousand words.

How effective is this?

The one-way street beside Mui Wo Centre was surprisingly empty on a public holiday. Effective policing or just effective letter-writing to the SCMP?

I wonder how long before the cars return.

Wouldn't an easy solution be to pedestrianise the area, paving it with interlocking bricks and some bedding plants and setting up stalls along the way?

It would do away with the need to police the area, give small stallholders a chance to operate at lower cost and add to the vibrancy of the town.
