Flea market at Garden Plus

Buffalo Wilbur just couldn't get out of bed today and we almost missed the flea market at Garden Plus in Pui O. But I forced him out because I told him PALS was setting up a store there and he's a big supporter.

The bad thing about being late was that we missed the vegetarian buffet and some of the better buys. The good thing was that we got quite good bargains as everyone was ready to pack up and go home. I scored some really good chicklit at only HK$10 a book.
And we did manage to persuade the vegetarian buffet folks to sell us some dishes... the vegetarian noodles were so good I went back for more to put into tomorrow's lunch box.

The Garden Plu flea market did have a nice atmosphere. There are tables set up for you to have a meal and basically just chill out... which is what Buffalo Wilbur did while I went bargain hunting.

There weren't very many people around, probably because it was near closing time. But I think they could build up quite a crowd if they held this regularly. Maybe one Sunday a month?

Bedding wholesale shop in Mui Wo

 It's above the Thai restaurant.
Mike and Tess haven't formally opened it yet but if you ask the folks at Nitaya Thai Kitchen, they can call either one of them for you.
Super soft towels at HK$88, cushions at HK$88 and, best of all, entire duvet sets (duvet + 2 pillowcases) for only HK$499. They only have 12 sets left and once they're gone, they're gone. We bought to stock up for winter.

Something lurking round the corner...

I don't know about you but this guy scared the beejeezus out of me when I first saw him lurking round the corner. What is the point of the display anyway? Do not steal lifejackets or this bogeyman will get you?

Fog on the water

The ferry captain was taking no chances this morning. Go slow, foghorn, the works... They must be extra worried especially after the Lamma IV incident.
Which got me thinking... How often do they check the life jackets on board? How do we know they all work? Or is that just me being paranoid after reading this Huffington Post article?

New hardware shop

There's something abut hardware shops that gets Buffalo Wilbur all excited. He can roam round for hours in a kid-in-a-candy-store daze. So when a new one opened in Sea Crest Terrace, guess who was in there like a shot even though it hasn't officially opened yet?

The new shop is run by Flora (I think that's what her name is), Mui Wo's Li Ka Shing of hardware shops. She also owns the one in Scenic Crest and another in the village.

Go check it out for the state-of-the-art paint custom mixer. You can pick any hue and the machine will mix it exactly to your specifications. Bet you didn't know Mui Wo can be so fancy, huh?

Those lazy parkers are back

The bicycles are beginning to creep into the No Parking zone again. Their owners seem to think that by parking their wheels behind the kiosk no one can see them but actually they are obstructing people getting off the ferry on the left hand side. Think it's time for another clean sweep.

Beware The Chicken

In Mui Wo, the chicken is the most dangerous sign of the zodiac.

BBQ dance party

Sounds fun. I like the "partners optional" bit. Hyuk hyuk.

Pun choi preparations

The temporary marquees set up in Shap Long means its pun choi time again. The big basin meal of abalone, goose web, chicken and other yummy stuff is a yearly celebration in the small village.

The pun choi all ready to be heated up.
